Hermes logo 'WE DO'

Hermes Germany has launched a new green logo ‘WE DO!’ to make its environmental commitment nowclearly visible for customers.

The new logo will be initially integrated in Germany in communication activities and placed onposters and vehicles to be launched subsequently in other European countries as well.

“Climate and environmental protection have traditionally been central components of our businessactivities. We want to reduce CO2 emissions as far as possible rather than just to compensate them. With our new environmental logo we also communicate this more clearly to our customers andcorporate clients. ‘WE DO!’ stands for what we have already achieved and what we plan for thefuture. Thereby we clearly say that we take on the responsibility ourselves and don’t pass thecosts of environmental protection on to customers,” said Philip Nölling, Commercial Director ofHermes Germany.

Hermes Logistik Gruppe Deutschland (HLGD) said it has been actively engaged in climate andenvironmental protection for many years and long before ‘green logistics’ became a marketingin-topic. Since 1994, the company has already managed to reduce its CO2 emissions per shipment bynearly 40% with over 250 million parcels and product shipments transported in 2009. In addition, ithas been operating a certified environmental management programme for over ten year according tothe globally recognised environmental norm ISO 14001.

With its environmental commitment, Hermes also supports the climate protection programme of itsparent company Otto Group to reduce CO2 emissions by nearly 50% by 2020. Thereby, the companyfocuses in particular on efficient and resource-saving transportation.

Hermes said measurable achievements in terms of climate and environmental protection are also anincreasingly important criterion for many distance traders who deliver goods via Hermes to endcustomers. According to a current study, 60% of the surveyed decision makers in the retail andconsumer goods industries consider these aspects ‘important’ or even ‘very important’. Therefore,Hermes makes its new logo available for its corporate clients to be placed on card boxes andwebsites. “Our clients, whether it’s a large mail-order company or a private shipper, can make itvisible that they selected a transport provider that meets its environmental responsibilities,”Nölling added.
