Deutsche Post is continuing to invest in its new electronic mail service in Germany with thelaunch of a modern call centre in Flensburg, northern Germany, thus creating 280 new jobs in the

The call centre is designed especially for customer support related to the e-letter which is dueto be launched in mid-July. The staff employed at the new facility will be advising private andbusiness customers all over Germany with questions about handling and registration.

In March this year, Deutsche Post unveiled the first customers for its paid-for secure ‘internetletter’ service called ‘E-Postbrief’ (‘E-Post Letter’) that will take on free e-mails and partlycompensate for the digital substitution of traditional physical mail. The service will offerbusinesses, authorities, organisations and consumers secure, confidential and reliable electronicdelivery of sensitive documents such as commercial or legal correspondence, contracts and invoices.Such a service cannot be guaranteed by free e-mail, according to the company.

The internet letter can be shipped in an easy and convenient way from any computer but remainsat the same time as binding, confidential and reliable as the traditional letter, Deutsche Post DHLsaid in a statement.

A key cornerstone of the new product is powerful customer support. “The E-Post Letter will havea strong infrastructure with safe and user-friendly technology as well as direct and competentcustomer service across all channels,” said Deutsche Post mail and parcels chief Jürgen Gerdes.

Peter Harry Carstensen, minister president of the federal state of Schleswig-Holstein, commentedon the decision to open the call centre: “I appreciate this important signal from Deutsche Post. The company is committed to the economically underdeveloped area in the region of Schleswig. Thestate government has made strong efforts in recent weeks to ensure that the site at Flensburg comesinto operation. Therefore, I am also personally grateful that some 280 people will find a newjob.”
