Belgian Post CEO honoured in World Mail Awards

Belgian Post CEO Johnny Thijs was among the winners of the 11th World Mail Awards announced inCopenhagen last night (June 15).

The event, organised by Triangle Management Services, took place ahead of the World Mail &Express Europe Conference, which takes place today and tomorrow (June 16-17).

Thijs was honoured by his peers as he collected the Industry Leadership Award for outstandingcontribution to the mail and express sector. Thijs said: “I am particularly proud and honoured withthis award, which actually is a tribute to the great work that has been accomplished by the wholeteam of De Post – La Poste during the past years. Together, as a team, we have transformed ourcompany, improving the quality of our services, bringing in a culture of customer orientation andincreasing the efficiency of our processes. De Post – La Poste is now ready for the full marketliberalisation in 2011. The award will encourage me and my colleagues to continuously strive forexcellence in our exciting postal business, both in Belgium and on international markets.”

Another big winner on the night was Lebanon national operator, LibanPost, which scooped twoawards – for Innovation and Transformation. Hind Fadel, marketing and business development directorat LibanPost, said: “We are double happy and double proud tonight. We are a small and youngoperator, who has only been in the industry for 12 years, so we are extremely excited to be rankedamong world class service operators. We have a very strong team which has strived to achieve ourgoals through a high level of involvement. The World Mail Awards make our efforts worthwhile.”

This year’s awards saw a record number of applications received from all over the world acrossthe 12 categories, and the judges deliberated long and hard to cut the shortlist of 38 down to theeventual winners.
