Russian Post has signed an agreement with the national network operator Nis-Glonass to installsatellite tracking equipment in its mail delivery vehicles to improve the efficiency of its
logistics network and service quality.Under the deal, 10,000 mail trucks will be equipped with Glonass GPS systems and 300 dispatchstations set up at Russian Post branches.
According to technical and economic estimations, the general operating costs of Russian Post interms of road transport of mail shipments will be reduced by 20% as a result of the systemimplementation.
The implementation of the transport monitoring system will enable Russian Post to better keepdelivery times of mail shipments, save fuel and reduce amortisation expenses. It will also ensurereal-time tracking of the vehicles. The system provides up-to-date information about the durationand location of down times, fuel usage and whether the route schedules are being kept. The receivedinformation can avoid irrational usage of the fleet, Russian Post said in a statement.
In addition to the navigation equipment, postal vehicles will be equipped with emergencycommunication tools and other special devices that will improve transportation safety and thesafety of mail shipments.
The supply terminals are expected to be installed from mid-June 2010. At the same time, RussianPost will be supplied with the server hardware and telematics software. As part of the project,Nis-Glonass will carry out the installation as well as commissioning and start-up of the wholetechnology. It will also work on a full set of operational and technical documentation and train300 Russian Post employees to work with the system.
This latest cooperation is part of Russian Post’s modernisation programme to upgradeinfrastructure and operations and implement new technology while improving working processes andefficiency.
