Mejdell to succeed Bailly as IPC chairman

Jean-Paul Bailly, Chairman and CEO of Groupe La Poste, France, has been re-elected chairman ofthe International Post Corporation (IPC) board for the next six months and will then be followed by

Dag Mejdell, CEO of Norway Post.

Bailly, who has served as IPC chairman since January 2006, was re-elected in the position at theIPC board meeting in San Francisco on 20 May. Dag Mejdell was elected to assume the chairmanship ofthe IPC board on December 1, 2010. 
 
“I am honoured to represent 24 of the world’s largest posts through a time of enormous changein the postal industry,” Bailly said. “Now more than ever it is crucial to the future of theindustry that posts that may compete on many levels, must also cooperate to move the industryforward in a time when it is facing a steep decline in letter mail volume, new sources ofcompetition and increasing options for substitution. In order to remain relevant and a provider ofchoice in the future, the posts must be able to proactively plan to meet the needs of a rapidlychanging marketplace and respond to our stakeholders with innovation, quality and deliverysolutions that fit their needs.”

During his tenure as chairman, IPC members have improved international delivery quality,expanded cooperative industry research and intelligence and led the effort to develop anenvironmental monitoring and measuring system to address the carbon footprint of the postalindustry. 

“Jean-Paul’s leadership has been vital to the strategic direction both for IPC and the postalindustry as a whole,” said Herbert-Michael Zapf, president and CEO of the International PostCorporation.  “Jean-Paul Bailly’s ability to facilitate cooperation among the posts is helpingto move us as an industry through some extremely challenging times and is leading us in thedirection of new opportunities and new ways of thinking about the industry’s future.” 

Dag Mejdell said: “I am honoured to accept this appointment as from December and look forward tocarrying on the good work of our current chairman, Mr. Bailly. IPC has successfully delivered valueto its members for over two decades and I am excited at the prospect of leading this importantorganisation as we move into our third decade of postal cooperation, quality management andcommitment to excellence.”
