The transport strike in Norway has escalated and is heavily impacting on road-based deliverieswithin the country and international shipments. But air express services remain unaffected.
The strike broke out on May 15 following a pay dispute between the Norwegian employersorganisation LTL and the transport workers union NTF. About 900 NTF members went out on strike. OnMay 25, the union escalated the strike by calling out workers at more terminals across the country.A total of 1,650 unionised workers at terminals across Norway are now on strike, according to BringLogistics.
DHL Express has been forced to close its Day Definite road-based network in Norway, and goodsfrom abroad are being held in various terminals around the country. A ban on Norway-bound shipmentsin Sweden has been lifted and goods are being accepted again but deliveries to customers in Norwaywill not be made until the strike is over. DHL air express services to and from Norway are notimpacted, however, the operator told customers in a service message.
Bring Logistics, the Norway Post freight division, has been seriously impacted by the strike.Most of the Bring Logistics and Bring Frigoscandia terminals in Norway are closed, meaning goodscannot be transported from one to the other. The company has been forced to temporarily lay offmore staff until the strike is resolved.
“At Bring, we are particularly concerned about the customers and employees that are affected bythis industrial dispute and hope it will be settled soon,” said Bring Logistics’ SVP ErikJohannessen.
Other parts of Bring’s operations, such as Express, Parcels and Warehousing Services, arecontinuing to function as normal and Company Parcels (Bedriftspakken) and Service Parcels(Servicepakken) will be forwarded as normal. In addition, urgent medical supplies are being grantedexemption from the strike.
Tollpost Globe, the Posten Norden subsidiary and DPD partner, said that its parcel and freightservices have been affected but door-to-door parcels are being delivered. However, service qualityand transit times are affected, management said.
TNT Express Norway told customers in a service message that seven employees have taken strikeaction and shipments around Bergen and Stavanger are expected to arrive with about 24 hoursdelay.
