British parcels operator Home Delivery Network (HDN) has unveiled a bold re-branding under thename ‘Yodel’ following its acquisition of the DHL Domestic parcel business in March.
As Yodel, the company “aims to challenge the delivery market with an absolute focus on thecustomer” and deliver “a market-leading offer” for both the B2B and B2C markets. HDN was thelargest B2C operator in Britain while the DHL Domestic business mostly focused on the B2B segmentbut with a growing B2C service. The Yodel name is based on the slogan “Your delivery, yourcall”.
Yodel, which describes itself as the second-largest parcel delivery business in the UK afterRoyal Mail, will deliver over 200 million parcels per year with annual revenues of £600 million(€710 million). Based in Hatfield, north of London, it operates eight national hubs, 123 servicecentres and a fleet of 5,000 vans.
The company said it redefines the delivery industry by putting the customer at heart of thebusiness and intends to take a market leading position in every sector from retail, pharmaceuticalsand telecoms to financial services. “By providing a wide range of services with the capability todeliver anything from a small packet to a sofa in the UK and abroad, Yodel will deliver flexibilityand choice that doesn’t currently exist in the market,” it claimed.
Jonathan Smith, Yodel CEO, said: “We are delighted to be unveiling this new brand, whichrepresents our ambitions to be a truly customer-focused business offering a full suite of servicesthat others in the market cannot match. The combined business is already growing faster than themarket and we are excited about our future potential.”
Smith was previously head of the DHL Express domestic parcel business acquired by HDN as ofMarch 1, 2010. He has replaced Brian Gaunt as head of the newly-merged company.
Yodel said it has already proved attractive to clients from all sectors with over 100 newclients starting in the last two months alone, of which over 12 generate in excess of £1 millionper annum. It has set up a new website under www.yodel.co.uk.
