Freightways solves tricky transport requests with new service

Kiwi Express

New Zealand express package leader Freightways has introduced a new service under the name ‘Stuck’ to cater for deliveries that are time-sensitive, unusual, hard to solve or require a

tailor-made solution.

According to Freightways managing director Dean Bracewell, the need for Stuck comes fromincreasingly frequent requests to provide outside-the-square solutions for the time sensitivedelivery of unusual freight or hard to solve delivery issues.

Some requests have included moving a lion from Whangarei (North Island) to Cromwell (SouthIsland) by air and road, transporting donated organs between hospitals for life-saving operations, operating aircraft charters from Auckland to Christchurch to deliver urgent packaging, getting alaptop from an Australian airport lounge to its New Zealand owner, and delivering a passporturgently to an airport departure terminal.

“So we have developed the Stuck service to bundle the extensive capability that exists acrossour group of businesses to enable us to say ‘yes’ to almost any express freight challenge acustomer may have.  Our experience and market research suggests that there is a need for aspecialist in this area and the implementation of Stuck was a natural progression of the Group’ssuite of services and a complementary fit,” Bracewell explained.

The Freightways chief said he is confident that Stuck will develop its niche in a market thatmost competitors step back from or do not have the capability to deliver.

Freightways subsidiary Messenger Services Limited, which already operates the SUB60, KiwiExpress, Air Freight NZ Cargo and Security Express brands, will manage the Stuck (www.stuck.co.nz) service on a 24/7 basis.

After pioneering New Zealand’s express package industry in the 1960s, Freightways’ businesseshave developed significant expertise in this market.  Utilising the capability of the widerFreightways Group, Stuck has access to five freighter aircraft, 100 plus trucks, more than 1,000goods vehicles and the cumulative experience of over 2,500 people, in addition to its externalpartners in the domestic and international express freight industries.
