Romanian parcel operator DPD (Pegasus) has subcontracted the local courier company QPACK tostrengthen its position on the Romanian CEP market.

With the new partnership, DPD (Pegasus) is subcontracting the activity of QPACK and also takingover its customer portfolio. QPACK recorded turnover of 4 million Romanian leu (€0.97 million) in2009, with a staff of 80 employees and a fleet of 120 vehicles. 

“Becoming subcontractors of the main market players is a solution for small companies duringthis difficult financial period in order to avoid leaving the market. This is an option that willprove profitable both for DPD and QPACK,” stated Lucian Aldescu, CEO of DPD (Pegasus) Romania andpresident of AOCR (The Romanian Courier Operators Association).

The representatives of QPACK Romania confirmed this partnership was a beneficial move for theircompany which was dealing with a difficult situation during the recent instable economicconditions.

Through the deal, QPACK customers now have full access to the DPD services. In Romania, DPDimplemented a unique technological system based on parcel distribution through zip codes. This way,the DPD customers benefit from an improved quality of service and an increased security of thedeliveries. DPD also recently launched its COD reimbursement delivery service targeting thee-commerce industry, in which it recorded considerable growth in the first quarter of2010. 

Pegasus was established in 1997 as the first company in Romania offering intra-city deliveries.In 2000, Pegasus became the appointed representative for Airborne Express and for Aramex. In 2003,the company established its own domestic network ensuring delivery in 24 hours countrywide. InMarch 2008, GeoPost Yurtici Kargo acquired the majority shareholding of Pegasus.

DPD (Pegasus) is currently one of the five leading local operators in Romania in the couriersector with more than 500 employees and 74 depots. With a central hub in Sibiu, it delivers morethan 8000 parcels every day, and has a market share of 10% and 7% on the domestic and internationallevels respectively. Pegasus has 100% coverage of Romania and delivery in more than 220 countriesworldwide.
