DHL Express extends zero-emission tricycle deliveries in French cities

DHL Express will start to make deliveries by tricycle in Rennes, the fourth French city where itwill operate the zero-emission vehicle.

DHL International Express France said it has signed an agreement with Formule Courses to makedeliveries of small parcels by tricycle in the city centre of Rennes. This is the fourth city inFrance with such a delivery service after similar projects in Lyon, Bordeaux and Toulouse.

Brice Devinoy, Operations Director of DHL International Express, commented: “For us thetricycles offer a very efficient solution to deliver to customers in the city centres. Thesevehicles offer us highly flexible distribution to ensure deliveries in good time while respondingto our customers’ ecological concerns.”

The company said it saves 2,600 litres of fuel a year and reduces emissions by more than 6,600kgs as a result of using the pedal-power vehicles.

The so-called “triporteurs”, which are driven only by human pedal power, are already used by TNTExpress in Paris and eight other cities. Among other ecological moves in France, FedEx has startedoperating electrically-powered “Urban Cabs” in Paris and Chronopost is using electric-powered vansin the French capital.
