Chronopost International, one of Europe’s leading express operators, has ordered high-capacitysortation systems by Beumer for installation at the Roissy-Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris to
modernise its existing distribution centre and make operations more efficient. As the international leader in manufacturing of intralogistics for conveying, loading, palletising, packaging, sortation and distribution technology, Beumer will supply and install threehigh-capacity sortation systems with a total length of 720 m at the airport. These Belt TraySorters with a width of 1,400 mm are the widest ones Beumer has ever installed, the company said ina statement.
The sortation systems for national and international express shipments are due to startoperations in spring and autumn 2010 respectively. The total order value is more than €7.5million.
The Belt Tray Sorter consists of a series of conveyor belts, arranged orthogonally to thedirection of the running of the sorter. This enables items to be fed onto the belt tray at a speedadapted to the sorter speed and the angle of induction. This, in turn, allows for items to be fedor discharged optionally to the left or to the right. For the discharging process, the belt movestowards the discharge and the item is guided gently into the destination.
Compared to other cross belt sorters, the Beumer Belt Tray Sorter incorporates 50 % fewercomponents, while the distance between the conveyor belts has been reduced to a minimum. The use ofbelt trays makes it possible to arrange smaller, closely stacked destinations, thus reducing thesquare footage occupied by the sorter.
Each belt tray is driven by a maintenance-free DC motor with energy transmitted to the Belt TraySorter without direct contact. “The contactless energy supply keeps the operating costs low and themodular structure allows for an adaptation of the system to any building situation – and thatwithout any loss in performance,” summed up Olivier Prato, President of Beumer SARL in Saint-Ouenl’Aumône.
The Beumer Group employs about 2,000 staff generating a turnover of 375 million. With itssubsidiaries and sales agencies, it is present in many branches all over the world.
