DPD today opened a new depot in Bettemburg, one of the 16 districts of Luxemburg, to increaseits operational efficiency in the country.
The new depot located in the south of the country is replacing the previous facility in Howald.The total area of the Bettemburg depot comprises 12,000 sqm with 1,700 sqm allotted to the sortingcentre.
DPD said it decided to build the depot to increase capacity considerably while also providingmodern infrastructure. It now serves the grand duchy of Luxemburg as well as the same-named Belgianprovince out of the new depot.
Marc Hasler, CEO of DPD Belux, explained: “The old depot in Howald had reached its capacitylimits. Due to its central location in the heart of Europe, DPD Luxemburg is an important part ofthe DPD network. We strongly believe in the economic potential of the region and already want to beready to benefit from future volume growth.”
“Thanks to the new infrastructure, we can now handle up to 7,000 parcels a day in Bettemburg,which represents nearly five times more than our capacity in Howald. From Bettemburg, we willoperate 42 delivery and collection rounds with the possibility to expand our tours to a maximum of52, depending on the volume development,” said depot manager Monika Fabry.
The new depot makes it possible to increase the quality of service for existing customers andwin new customers through more attractive service. “We currently serve more than 3,000 customers.Through the modern infrastructure and our increased capacity, we will be able to do even more forour customers and expand our market share in Luxemburg,” she added.
