La Poste’s French express subsidiary Chronopost has inaugurated a new €300,000 depot atOcteville-sur-mer, close to Le Havre in northern France, to improve operations in the region.
The new 2,000 sqm depot replaces the previous smaller site located at the port area of Havrewhere parcels were sorted manually. With the larger facility, Chronopost expects to improve thedistribution quality for customers in the metropolitan area of Le Havre, especially for deliveriesbefore 10:00 and 13:00.
Thanks to a €155,000 investment in new sorting equipment with two telescopic conveyors, thesorting time of parcels at the depot will be reduced while also reducing the number of pickings bythe consecutive operators. With a quintupled area compared to the previous facility, the new depotallows the firm to collect and distribute more than 2,200 parcels a day.
The site has a customer reception with the possibility to deposit parcels until 17:45 to bedistributed before 13:00 in France the next day and at the next possible delivery time in 230countries.
The €300,000 depot is located 9 km from the sea port of Le Havre. It is a key logistic andindustrial region of a European scale profiting from its proximity to Paris and an exceptionallocation as the leading French port for foreign trade.
“With the depot at Octeville-sur-mer, Chronopost is strengthening its presence in the regionUpper Normandy to support growth of local businesses, particularly in the transportation, logisticsand automotive industries,” explained Christian Emery, the Chronopost CEO. “This location allows usto anticipate annual volume growth of 10% expected for the area around Le Havre in 2010. Therefore,Chronopost invested nearly €300,000.”
Major investment projects in the region, especially related to aviation and port activities, area visible proof for the dynamism and the economic advantages of the region, Chronopost said in astatement.
Founded in 1985, Chronopost employs 3,500 staff sorting 250,000 parcels every day and has anetwork of 76 operational sites and six hubs in France.
