French carrier Sernam opens new depot on Côte-d’Azur

French parcels carrier Sernam has strengthened its presence in southern France with the openingof a new depot at Fréjus, west of Cannes on the Côte-d’Azur, at the start of this month.

The 1,800 sqm facility, with 20 truck docking doors, is located in the industrial zone ofPuget-sur-Argens, close to the main Marseille-Italy A8 motorway, and handles deliveries to some 500businesses in the surrounding area.

Sernam said it aims to improve its coverage of the Provence-Alpes-Côte-d’Azur region by offeringfaster delivery times and moving closer to customers. The depot is directly linked to the company’smultimodal facility at Marseille-Miramas which opened last April.

Last year, the company enhanced its services with the launch of a European freight productbranded ‘Avantage Europe’ in cooperation with German partner Rhenus Freight Logistics. This offersdistribution of shipments up to 3 tonnes to 30 countries in 3-5 days and complements its EuropeXpress service for parcels and light shipments through the EuroExpress network. It also launched a48-hour domestic pallet distribution service under the name ‘Xpal’.

The company has a network of 55 depots across France and uses four high-speed night cargo trainsfor long-distance overnight transportation. In 2008, it had turnover of €371 million.
