UPS has shipped all the equipment of British athletes taking part in the 2010 Winter Olympics toVancouver in a major logistics project that has spanned several continents and taken months of
planning.As Official Logistics and Express Delivery Supporter of the London 2012 Olympic andParalympic Games, UPS is providing all freight and logistics services for Team GB’s kit andequipment, including ocean freight, air freight and ground transportation to the Olympic Village incooperation with the British Olympic Association (BOA) and the British Paralympic Association(BPA).
The Team GB logistical journey began in the UK in December 2009 with UPS shipping over 4 tons(8,800 lbs) of items in a 6m (20ft) ocean freight container to Vancouver. Air freight operationsstarted in January 2010 with the transportation of four bobsleighs to the training camps in SaltLake City and Lake Placid. At the same time, skis were airlifted from Germany to Vancouver andopening ceremony parade outfits were flown in from China.
Back in the UK, UPS helped Adidas to distribute the official kit to Team GB athletes, whilein Canada UPS will provide key support to Team GB within two Olympic Village sites by not onlystoring and delivering in excess of 500 items, but also by assembling items of furniture for theVillage.
UPS, as an Official Supporter of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, hasresponsibility for virtually all the distribution and logistics services for the London 2012 Games,as well as providing support for the BOA in the lead-up to 2012.
