PostEurop, European public postal operators and industry stakeholders have launched a ‘Green FleetForum’ as a platform to exchange information and expertise on reducing the environmental impact of
their transport fleets. The PostEurop Green Fleet Forum was launched last Friday (February 12) at an event inBrussels. The participating postal operators include Royal Mail, P&T Luxembourg, TNT, Itella,CTT Correios de Portugal, Deutsche Post DHL, Groupe La Poste, Poste Italiane, La Poste-De Post(Belgium), Posten Norge and Magyar Posta (Hungary).
The forum brings together environment and operations experts with representatives from theEuropean Commission, research institutes, suppliers and manufacturers to further initiate andfacilitate mutual sharing of best practices, to exchange knowledge and deepen mutual contacts.Participants aim at giving an overview of green transportation initiatives in the area of hybrid, electrical and hydrogen vehicles within their organisation.
Transportation is the operational backbone of European Public Postal Operators who are underconstant pressure to perform at optimum, the European postal operators association pointed out. Thepostal industry is faced with many challenges including the growing cost of fossil fuels and anincreasing need for climate-neutral solutions. Extensive research and testing on postal vehiclespowered by hybrid, electrical or hydrogen technology would bring the sector closer to thesesolutions.
“Over the years, PostEurop and its members have been very committed to seeking aclimate-neutral solution in all aspects of postal activities. The Green Fleet Forum is thebeginning of a dialogue between European Public Operators and key stakeholders to specificallyaddress the transportation aspect of our operations. We hope that this initiative will spark agreat amount of common interest to further green our fleets,” said Botond Szebeny, PostEuropSecretary General.
The initiative follows the success of the New Electric Postman Helper (NEPH) project whichhas successfully accompanied the development and the prototyping of the e-bike and e-caddy forpostmen, PostEurop noted.
