International mail distributor SkyPostal Networks, which focuses on Latin America, has been awardeda $2 million contract by La Poste to deliver mail shipments from the French postal operator to
Latin America and Caribbean (LAC).SkyPostal said it identified the need of the European national postal operators to improvetheir mail delivery service into LAC in view of the upcoming postal liberalisation as the regionalnetwork of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) offered no integrated technology. Therefore, it couldnot meet the service and pricing needs demanded by a liberalised and competitive cross borderpostal market, according to the company.
Responding to the increasing demand for an integrated postal service, SkyPostal organised thelarge private postal services in each country into a regional mail delivery network connected byits PosTrac mail tracking system and today delivers mail for several European posts and forEuropean and US mail consolidators. SkyPostal transports mail originating from France, UnitedKingdom and La Poste’s Office of Exchange in the United States to LAC.
For several years, the delivery of domestic commercial mail in most of the LAC countries hasbeen mainly handled by private postal operators who pay their carriers by the delivery and thusachieve good levels of service, control and efficiencies with track and trace technology. Today,over 6,000 private postal operators deliver up to 90% of the domestic commercial mail in theregion.
As the largest private postal network in Latin America, SkyPostal delivers more than 60million mail items each month through its network of local private postal operators. It handlesmail from European postal administrations, major publishers, mail consolidators, internationalmailers and financial institutions that require time-definite and reliable delivery of their mailand magazines, the company added.
SkyPostal operates a mail and parcel processing hub at the Airport Free Zone in Bogota,Colombia. Parcels and mail destined for the LAC region are sent to the Colombian hub, processed andforwarded overnight to the final destination country for customs clearance and delivery. ItsIntelligent Parcel Post product offers delivery with track and trace visibility taking 6-8 days ata much lower cost than other express operators such as FedEx and UPS.
