DHL Parcel Germany offers ‘green’ international shipping for business customers

DHL GoGreen parcel

DHL Parcel Germany has expanded its climate-friendly GoGreen shipping service beyond nationalborders and now offers international destinations for business customers.

In 2009, its business customers shipped 15 million GoGreen parcels within Germany alone. Incomparison, DHL Germany had a total of about 661 million business parcels in 2008.

Following this success, DHL is now expanding its eco-friendly shipping service tocross-border products such as Europe Parcel (Europapaket) and World Parcel (Weltpaket).

Private customers already have the possibility to ship international parcels and packages ina carbon-neutral way with the DHL Online franking service.

“With the triumph of e-commerce, the role of cross-border trade is increasing. At the sametime, the growing environmental awareness of our customers is driving demand for climate-friendlytransportation,” said Jürgen Gerdes, responsible for the German mail and parcel business. “With theGoGreen programme, DHL Parcel is optimally positioned to offer businesses climate-friendlyalternatives for international parcel shipping as well.”

Due to large distances and frequent deployment of planes, transportation abroad causes higherecological damage. “That’s exactly where the climate protection programme of Deutsche Post DHLmakes a specifically sustainable contribution,” Deutsche Post DHL said in a statement.

As the first global logistics provider, Deutsche Post DHL has set itself a concrete climateprotection goal to improve energy efficiency by 30% by the year 2020 compared to 2007. Measuresinclude more efficient traffic control, modernisation of the fleet and the usage of alternativeenergy sources.

As part of the GoGreen initiative, the CO2 emissions generated by the group are calculatedand offset through internal and external climate protection projects as well as those certifiedaccording to international standards. The comprehensive range of climate neutral products thusenables Deutsche Post DHL customers to improve their own climate footprint, the company added.
