Yamato sets foot in Chinese market

Leading Japanese parcel operator Yamato Transport has moved into the Chinese market as its latestforeign expansion step following its recent launch in Singapore.



The group has set up Yamato (China) Transport Co, a joint venture with Shanghai-based BusLogistics, in which it already acquired a 65% stake last year. The new company is planned to startoperations before this summer’s World Expo in Shanghai, several media reported.

According to some reports, it is already offering door-to-door parcel deliveries in Shanghaiusing a fleet of 100 vehicles and 11 distribution centres.

Yamato (China) Transport plans to invest about RMB 600 million (€62 million) in creating anetwork of up to three national sorting centres, 25 regional distribution centres and 280 localdepots over the coming 3-5 years. It hopes to handle up to 300 million parcels a year and generaterevenues of RMB 3 billion (€313 million) by 2015.

In Singapore, the group launched its ‘Ta-Q-Bin’ service at the start of January as its firstindependent domestic operation outside Japan.
