FedEx Ground hikes 2010 prices by average 4.9%

FedEx has announced an average rise next year of 4.9% in standard list rates for US ground and homedelivery services, to come into effect on 4 January 2010. The increase was 5.9% for 2009.



In addition, other FedEx Ground and FedEx Home Delivery surcharges will change withadjustments to be made to the FedEx Express and FedEx Ground fuel surcharge tables. FedEx SmartPostrates will also change at the same date.

FedEx Express previously announced that it would increase shipping rates by an average of5.9% for US domestic and US export services, also effective on 4 January 2010. The increase will bepartially offset by adjusting the fuel price at which the fuel surcharge begins, reducing the fuelsurcharge by two percentage points and resulting in a net price increase of 3.9%. FedEx Expressrates for US domestic and US export shipments increased 6.9% on average for 2009.

Along with FedEx, UPS will also increase prices for US customers by 4.9% on average fromJanuary 2010 including the same price increase for UPS Ground packages and an average net increaseof 4.9% on all air express and US origin international shipments. The rate increase for air expressand international shipments is based on a 6.9% increase in the base rate, less a 2% reduction inthe air and international fuel surcharge index.
