TNT Post

TNT Post Germany launched a new CO2 neutral mail delivery service and electric bikes to neutraliseCO2 emissions in line with its “100! ProKlima” green logistics concept.

With the new mail delivery service, business customers in Germany pay an extra cost called “Klima-Obolus” for each letter. It will be invested in international certified climate projects thatare supported by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). Furthermore, customers will support a nationwideprogramme for forest conservation and expansion from the Deutsche Umwelthilfe e.V. (GermanEnvironmental Aid Association) by using TNT’s green delivery service.

“Our climate protection project enables us to reduce our CO2 emissions and to contribute tothe goals of the Kyoto-Protocol and further international environmental aid goals at the sametime,” said CEO TNT Post Germany Mario Frusch.

The CO2 neutral mail delivery service is part of internal environmental programmes initiatedby TNT in cooperation with the United Nations Environmental Programme to protect the environmentand natural resources.

Separately, TNT Post Germany launched e-bikes (electric bikes) to support “100! ProKlima”green logistics in the country. 25 postmen are testing the e-bikes since November 2009 in the areaaround Düsseldorf, Essen, Moers, Viersen, Wesel and Wuppertal during the next three months.

The bikes consist of a lithium-ion-battery which powers a small electric motor beside thepedals. If the bikes turn out to be a fuel-efficient alternative nearly 5,000 postmen nationwidewill be equipped with electric bikes in Germany.
