TNT Express Germany has officially inaugurated its new import gateway in Cologne to keep up withthe growing shipment volumes in the region.

The company has already been operating a customs clearance facility in Cologne-Porz, adistrict in the south-east of Cologne, since 1998. Due to continuously increasing shipping volumesand the number of employees, TNT Express felt the need to find new larger premises. The new gatewayis ideally located being only some hundred meters away from the old site.

Compared to the previous area of 250 sqm, the new 1,500 sqm facility ensures optimal handlingof shipments. In addition, a new office with the area of 600 sqm was built for the 60 employees onsite. After a five-month construction period and a smooth relocation, the import gateway finallystarted operating in August 2009.

Thomas Kraus, head of TNT Express Germany, said in his opening speech during the inaugurationceremony: “With the new location, TNT Express is clearly pointing the way towards future growth. Wehave invested about €750,000 in the construction project to create ideal conditions for furtherexpansion of shipment volumes.”
