Postal leaders to outline strategies at Post-Expo this week

Top postal leaders from around the world will be outlining their business strategies at this week’sPost-Expo in Hannover against the background of a dramatic decline in mail volumes this year.

The combination of electronic substitution and the worldwide economic recession, which hasdriven customers to scale back their mailings substantially, has led to postal operators in Europeand North America suffering unprecedented volume declines in the high single-digit or even lowdouble-digit range.

This market trend will be a dominant topic at the annual three-day event, which combinesconference sessions along with the Post-Expo and Courier Parcel Logistics exhibitions. Other keyissues at the event, running from September 29 to October 1 in Hannover, will include new businessmodels, technology and the environment.

The keynote speaker at the World Postal Business Forum conference tomorrow will be DeutschePost DHL CEO Frank Appel. La Poste France’s Jean-Paul Bailly, Poste Italiane’s Massimo Sarmi, IndiaPost’s Radhika Doraiswamy, Swiss Post’s Claude Béglé, Hellenic Post’s Andreas Taprantzis and theUPU’s Edouard Dayan are also among the speakers.

They will share their insight into the evolution of the worldwide postal sector, whichemploys 5.5 million people and moves more than 438 billion pieces of mail and 6 billion parcelsannually. The World Postal Business Forum is organised by the Universal Postal Union, the UnitedNations specialised agency for international postal services.

A three-day Operations Conference is presented by leading industry experts and explores keyoperational issues in the areas of efficiency, optimisation, technology and sustainable operations.The Post-Expo 2009 also offers interactive seminars, Technology Workgroups, hosted by keysuppliers, consultants and integrators focusing on Mail Automation, Parcel Sortation, Retail &Customer Solutions, Mobile Technology and Transport & Logistics.

The Post-Expo / CPL exhibitions, with some 200 exhibiting companies, will showcasetechnologies, services and solutions from key international suppliers covering all aspects of theinternational postal, parcels and express business.
