Overnight delivery company Night Star Express has announced it will invest €3.5 million in a newhub in central Germany to triple its handling capacity.
After achieving single-digit growth in the first half of 2009, the express operator will nowinvest in a new hub at Hünfeld, close to Fulda in central Germany, in order to keep up withincreasing shipping volumes. The 3,400 sqm facility with its 85 loading gates will go intooperation at the beginning of 2010 and will be located in an area of distribution facilities, nextto the A7 motorway.
“The new building is necessary due to the capacity limit which has been reached at ourexisting hub in Eichenzell, also located next to Fulda,” said Matthias Hohmann, Managing Directorof Night Star Express GmbH Logistik, Unna.
“The continued increase in shipping volumes as well as the expansion of internationalrelations cannot be carried out by the old site. Another reason for the replacement of the previoushub in Eichenzell is the ideal location of the new area of distribution facilities next to the A7.We expect shortened times of arrival and departure, from which our night express services willbenefit as from the upcoming year,” he added.
The company will invest €3.5 million in the new hub, which is expected to create 40-50 newfull-time and part-time jobs.
“We are very proud about the investment being financed through a group of internalinvestors,” stressed Hohmann. “An investment of this size during the financial and economic crisisis a clear proof that our medium-sized cooperation is well positioned and will overcome the currentcrisis. We expect to continuously increase the shipping volumes during the next few years. The newhub triples our handling capacities which means we are investing in a successful future for NightStar Express.”
