FedEx Express has provided logistical support to the aid organisation Help without Frontiers bytransporting solar cookers from Munich to North Thailand helping civil war refugees from Myanmar.
The express company has carried an 850kg case of solar cookers by air and road from Bangkokto Chiang Mai in the north of Thailand, from where the cookers will be distributed by the aidorganisation to refugees from Myanmar in the border region between Thailand and Myanmar.
The solar cooker equipment was donated by EG Solar, a development aid project of the publicvocational school in Altötting, Bavaria, in Germany. Among other places, the cookers will be usedin a school cafeteria in Lois Kaw Wan, a remote Thai village at the far north-eastern border withBurma. By using the solar cookers, hot meals can be prepared without firewood, enabling theinhabitants of the border area to avoid dangerous trips through the mountain area for collectingwood and also reducing the deforestation.
