TNT supports aid efforts for Ganges delta cyclone victims in India

TNT in partnership with World Food Programme

TNT India has provided financial and logistical support for Ganges delta cyclone victims in Indiain cooperation with local non-government organisations (NGO’s).



After the cyclone Aila struck more than 42 small islands in the Ganges delta area in NorthEast India in May 2009, TNT India teamed up with three local NGO’s to purchase and transport themedicine needed for the two million affected villagers.

While the Indian government takes care of food and water supply, TNT India purchasesmedicines and hires medical personnel in order to set up medical relief camps. TNT’s Moving TheWorld team released a budget of €50,000 a substantial amount of which is spent on doctors andparamedics hired by the NGO’s as well as the purchase of big quantities of medicine to cure themost common diseases such as diarrhoea, gastritis, cold coughs and tropical skin conditions.

Along with the aid efforts, TNT also ships 150 tons of high-energy biscuits to the affectedregion for its long term humanitarian partner World Food Programme.

The presidents of the NGO’s praised TNT’s humanitarian sense of responsibility and the helpmuch needed in an area, where public medical assistance is otherwise not available.

Manoj Bhattacharya, a former member of the Indian Parliament, commented: “I want to extend myheartfelt thanks and gratitude to TNT and hope they will continue their kind assistance for thecause of humanity.”
