DHL plans to cut a total of 285 jobs in France and transfer 150 workers to other locations to copewith falling shipping volumes as part of the company’s €1 billion savings programme, French media
reported.DHL Express will shed 225 jobs from a total of 5,200 staff employed at the unit while 140people will transfer to sites next to their current workplace.
At the group’s support and freight unit, 60 job cuts are planned along with 10 transfers.
DHL’s logistics business has not been affected by the job cuts, according to various mediareports.
“DHL is optimising its business in France to adapt its capacity to the decline in activity,”a company’s spokesperson said in a statement.
The French union FO commented: “Permanent restructuring has been going on for three years andthe financial reasons for the social plan seem doubtful to us.”
The unions called on employees to prepare for massive industrial action in the beginning ofSeptember this year, Agence France Presse reported.
