Deutsche Post has announced that it will buy 2,400 delivery vehicles from Volkswagen by October2009.
The contract for the extended cooperation includes 1,800 Caddy vehicles and 600 T5 vehiclesto be delivered by Volkswagen to Deutsche Post within the next few months. Since 2005, Volkswagenhas delivered a total of 13,600 vehicles to Deutsche Post. The company fleet currently consists ofabout 25,000 delivery vehicles in use.
“Our customers expect us to deliver 72 million letters and 2.5 million parcels per day ontime and quickly”, says Jürgen Gerdes, Management Board Mail Deutsche Post DHL. “Our delivery staffcan only accomplish this high performance when they have reliable delivery vehicles. The Volkswagenvehicles have been proven in use, therefore we have extended the cooperation. At the same time,this is another investment in the future and quality of our mail service.”
The Volkswagen delivery vehicles of the type Caddy are powered by a 1.9-l-TDI motor with 62kWand include a parking distance control system. The T5 vehicle is powered by a 2.0-l-SDI51kW.
