TNT awards Astrata container tracking system contract for Asia Road Network

TNT Asia has awarded a four-year container tracking system contract to Astrata Group for its entireAsia Road Network.



Astrata announced that after an extensive tender evaluation process, TNT Asia chose thecompany as its partner for a region-wide asset tracking solution. Deliveries under the contractstarted with effect of May 2009.

Currently linking 127 cities and spanning more than 7,500 km, the network includes Singapore,Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, China, and most recently Cambodia. It is Asia’s first such roadnetwork offering TNT customers a fully-integrated, door-to-door, day-definite transportationsolution throughout Asia.

Tony Lugg, Head of Security of TNT Asia, commented: “After a rigorous evaluationand subsequent trial we are confident that Astrata offers TNT Asia the most comprehensive andreliable solution available. This new system will provide TNT with a critical element that willfurther enhance our information, security and safety systems.”

Astrata’s Geo-Location Platform GLP100 will be fitted into TNT’s fleet of trucks andcontainers. The unit is a compact and technologically advanced GPS tracking device specificallydeveloped to meet the demands of fleet management and transport security applications. A primaryfeature of the new device is its unique, small, flat and lightweight form factor, making it easy toconceal within a vehicle.

The Astrata GLP100 boasts real-time monitoring, secure communications and expandability toother sensors, effectors and data devices. The solution for TNT will include GPS, driver ID, 2-wayvoice, immobiliser (horns and blinkers), panic button, and cargo door sensor.

The container tracking system also includes Astrata’s proven anti-hijack protection whichenables a vehicle that is stolen, hijacked or appears to be driven erratically to be stoppedremotely using Astrata’s sophisticated vehicle tracking and immobilising solution.

Astrata will provide its latest software, Sirius Web 2, which TNT will host at its 24/7monitoring centre in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This will offer advanced, critical eventalert management and the ability to send commands to the vehicle. The primary focus will be toensure that vehicles do not deviate from predefined and approved routes as wellas unauthorised stops and cargo door opening.
