Georg Pölzl, Austrian-born head of German mobile phone company T-Mobile, was yesterday appointed asCEO of Austrian Post with a brief to gear up the part-privatised company for full postal
liberalisation.In its meeting yesterday, the Austrian Post supervisory board appointed Pölzl, 52, as the newChairman of the Management Board and Chief Executive Officer, effective October 1, 2009. Hiscontract runs until September 30, 2014. Acting CEO Rudolf Jettmar, who took over when Anton Waisresigned on health grounds earlier this year, will continue to serve as Chief Financial Officer andDeputy Chairman of the Management Board.
“With the appointment of Georg Pölzl, we have succeeded in attracting an outstandinginternationally active manager with an impressive professional career”, said Peter Michaelis,President of the Supervisory Board of Austrian Post. “On the one hand, Georg Pölzl has experienceas a top-manager for one of the largest publicly listed companies in Germany. On the other hand, heis a convincing choice, due to his comprehensive knowledge of the Austrian business environment.Now it is up to the entire Management Board of Austrian Post to demonstrate their unequivocalcommitment towards implementing the required strategies under the leadership of Mr. Pölzl, and thuscontinue the successful growth path being pursued by Austrian Post,” Michaelis added.
Pölzl has served as the Spokesman of the Management Board of T-Mobile Germany since thebeginning of 2009. Previously, he worked as the special deputy of the Management Board of DeutscheTelekom with responsibility for implementing the successful restructuring programme at the company.Before moving to Germany, Pölzl was the Managing Director of T-Mobile Austria in Vienna. GeorgPölzl began his professional career as a corporate consultant for McKinsey & Co. Subsequently,he was appointed CEO of the mechanical engineering and plant building company Binder & Co AG.Pölzl studied at and graduated from Montana University in Leoben, Austria.
