DPD Germany has put its new depot in Wernberg-Köblitz, Bavaria, into operation, creating over 100new jobs in the emerging region on the German-Czech border.

With the new facility, the company has expanded its network to 75 parcel sorting centres inthe country.

Strategically located at the junction between the highways A6 and A93, the 2,000 sqm facilitywith 200 sqm office space is perfectly accessible to DPD customers in Upper Palatinate, Bavaria. Some 10 commercial and 20 industrial jobs have already been created. About 100 additional staff areemployed with DPD’s system partners in the region.

The depot has over 66 loading gates for delivery vehicles and four loading gates formain-line units which can be extended to ten when needed. Up to 2.6 million parcels are handled inWernberg-Köblitz annually.

The sorting centre was built in a very ecological way, DPD said in a statement. Concrete wasonly used at places where it was necessary for static reasons. In contrast, recyclable buildingmaterials were used wherever possible. The whole roof construction, for example, consists of woodand is therefore completely recyclable, the company added.

DPD Germany has a national network of 3,500 parcel shops and a fleet of 7,000 vehicles. Itemploys 7,500 staff in its 75 depots all over the country.
