GLS Germany has announced the opening of its first drive-in parcel shop at Seevetal, near Hamburg, providing more comfortable accessibility to its customers. If clients respond favourably, the
intention is to extend the new concept. The new drive-in parcel shop is located at the industrial area of Seevetal within reach oflocal manufacturers as well as nearby residents. The point of acceptance is in a hall which isaccessible for cars and vans of customers as well as for the delivery vans.
Klaus Conrad, Managing Director of GLS Germany, explains: “No searching for parking spaces,no carrying of parcels – this will be very much appreciated by small companies who need to takemultiple consignments to the shop.”
The idea for the drive-in came up when the parcel shop manager once saw a customer standingout in the rain holding a parcel. “We picked up the idea immediately and provided support withrealisation, organisation and advertising material”, says Sven Lameyer, Representative Parcel Shopsof GLS Germany. “If we get the new concept going, we can establish GLS drive-in parcel shops inother regions too.”
Last year, GLS said that it plans to invest €94 million in infrastructure and services withpriority on Germany, Poland, Netherlands and France in 2008/2009. Along with construction andupgrading of depots, the company wants to focus on rolling out industrial parcel productionprocesses throughout the network as well as implementing new solutions for the “last mile” in B2Cbusiness.
