DHL has announced that it will invest €3 million (COP 9.6 million) in Colombia this year to improveits infrastructure and expand its presence in the country, the Colombian newspaper Portafolio
reported.Jorge Lavignasse, Managing Director of DHL Express Colombia, said that the company expects toreach a similar growth in 2009 as last year despite the difficult economic environment. In 2008,DHL recorded a 17.8% growth in sales and a 10.4% increase in transported volumes in the couintry.
The strategy to reach the growth rates of last year in 2009 comprises two steps. On the onehand, DHL plans to enhance its service quality in the country. This includes renewing and buyingmore vehicles for its fleet. On the other hand, it is involved in strategic partnerships tostrengthen its position on the domestic market, DHL Colombia said in a statement.
For 2009 and 2010, DHL Express plans investments amounting to $200 million (approx. €150million) for the Latin American region to further increase the company’s presence, particularly inthe domestic markets.
