TNT Express targets growing clinical research industry in Philippines

TNT has extended its Clinical Express service to the Philippines allowing clinical trials to keeptheir demanding schedule.



TNT Clinical Express provides quick and safe delivery of sensitive specimens and instrumentsfor the growing clinical research industry thus supporting the validation process of newpharmaceuticals before their market launch. The increasing demand for shorter development time ofdrugs for unmet medical conditions is pushing the growth of clinical trials in the region inparticular, TNT Philippines said in a statement.

TNT’s Life Sciences Express Hub, an S$8-million investment in Singapore, is the company’slargest life science-focused regional distribution centre with a floor area of 65,500 square feet(10,668 sqm), and is considered the first and largest of its kind in Asia.  Servicing thePhilippines and the rest of Asia, the hub uses the latest in Radio Frequency Identification (RFID)to securely transport and store clinical requirements of the industry.

According to Jennifer Arellano, the president of the Philippine Clinical ResearchProfessionals (PCRP), the Asian clinical trials market is expected to grow at least 20% annuallyover the next five years: “To speed up drug development, clinical trials have been brought out ofthe US and Western Europe into the global scale. In the Philippines alone, there has been asignificant increase in clinical trial activities over the last 5 years, especially in diabetes,psychiatry, oncology and respiratory trials. Some hospitals have even started to put in placeclinical trials offices to service the specific needs of pharmaceutical-sponsored clinical trials.”
