Transport Logistic has stable numbers despite economic crisis

Europe’s largest transport trade fair, Transport Logistic, has stable numbers of exhibitors thisyear and organisers are confident of good visitor volumes at the Munich event despite the impact of

the economic crisis on the industry.

Transport Logistic, which runs from May 12-15, is set to cover 100,000 sqm of exhibitionspace for the first time and will expand with an extra exhibition hall. About 1,600 companies andorganisations from 60 countries and covering all sectors of the transport and logistics industrywill present their products and services. In 2007, the biennial trade fair had 1,582 exhibitorsfrom 57 countries covering 90,000 sqm and attracted 47,636 trade visitors from 118 countries.

“We expect growth this year despite the economic and financial crisis,” said EugenEgetenmeir, deputy managing director of organiser Messe München, at a press briefing in Istanbullast week. “Interest in Transport Logistic 2009 is spread right across all the segments in thesector, but demand is particularly strong from logistics services companies.” The trade fair wasbenefiting from companies consolidating their marketing budgets on major events and saving onsmaller shows, he explained.

Exhibitors from the European express and parcel industry will include DHL, trans-o-flex, GOExpress & Logistics, Ciblex (France), Nacex (Spain) and a number of smaller German companies.Several large providers such as DPD, TNT and UPS, however, will not be exhibiting this year,according to the latest exhibitor information. Major logistics exhibitors will include DB Schenker,Kühne & Nagel, Panalpina, Geodis and Dachser.

The air cargo industry will be strongly represented with some 200 exhibitors in a separatehall. At the accompanying Air Cargo Europe conference, industry executives and senior managers willdiscuss topics such as how to cope with the current market downturn, emissions trading, futuregrowth markets and the potential for carrying air cargo on high-speed trains in Europe.

Other conferences will focus on Eurasia, maritime logistics and topics such as greenlogistics, risk management and logistics real estate. There also will be special events on Turkey,Croatia and Brazil among the large number of sessions in the accompanying programme.
