TNT Express UK has raised £25,000 (€27,500) in 30 days during the Christmas period for hundreds ofcharities across the country to celebrate 30 years in business.
TNT started operating in the UK in 1978 with the acquisition of Lancashire-based InterCounties Express, which at the time had 500 employees and a turnover of £5 million (€5.5 million).Within 30 years, the company has expanded tremendously to almost 12,000 staff and revenuesexceeding £840 million (€926 million) in 2008, it said in a statement.
To mark the company’s 30 years in business, TNT employees embarked on a month-longfund-raising tour. Called the ’30-30-30′ challenge, staff were encouraged to use up to 30 ideas fortheir fund-raising efforts, and choose one of the UK’s top 30 charities or opt for one of theirown.
More than 50 TNT Express Services depots and offices combined their efforts with fund-raisingactivities ranging from sky dives, fancy dress days, ‘wife swaps’, cake baking, noodle-eating,managers in stocks, auctions to raffles, car valeting and male leg waxing.
Some of the charities to benefit from TNT’s ’30-30-30′ initiative on the occasion of thecompany’s 30th anniversary include British Heart Foundation; Shelter; Breast Cancer Care; BlueCross; RNIB; Cancer Research; NSPCC: Macmillan Cancer Support ; Help for Heroes; Help The Aged;Motor Neurone Disease and the RSPCA.
