Spanish express and freight company Azkar has acquired Geodis Calberson’s parcel and freighttransportation business in Spain and Portugal to expand its network in the Iberian Peninsula. The
purchase price was not disclosed.In the next few weeks, Azkar will gradually take over the Geodis services within the IberianPeninsula and islands. However, the partnership excludes Geodis Calberson’s Logistics andForwarding divisions in Spain and Portugal which will continue operating as usual.
In view of Azkar’s leading position in the region, Geodis Calberson, one of the major expressand parcels operators in France and acquired by the French rail operator SNCF last year, expects toexpand its transport and logistics services in Europe with the new agreement.
Azkar said that it has streamlined its operations to adjust to the current economic situationallowing the company to confront the future challenges as an independent consolidator in Iberia.
