Swiss Post announced the delivery of 15 million parcels in December before Christmas, with rushhour traffic rising to over one million packages a day in its main sorting centres in the country.
The staff of the national postal operator handled on average half a million parcels a day onnormal working days in December, rising to more than one million per day in the busiest periodbetween 15 and 19 December in the sorting hubs in Daillens, Frauenfeld and Härkingen.
Customers have mainly contributed to the efficient processing of Christmas traffic bydepositing their parcels on time and properly addressed, Swiss Post said in a statement.
The company has also forwarded charity parcels free of charge to Swiss Red Cross until 7January 2009, half of them to eastern Europe, especially Bosnia-Herzegowina, Republic of Belarusand Moldavia, mostly hygiene and dental products, school furniture, toys and children’s shoes.
