trans-o-flex ThermoMed expanded its network for temperature-sensitive products to the Beneluxcountries.
With immediate effect, customers in the Benelux, mainly from the pharmaceutical industry, areoffered transport of medical products at a constant temperature of between 2 and 8°C from thepick-up to the delivery. This service also ensures that especially the quality of high-class andsensitive products, such as vaccines, remains unaffected during the entire transportation.trans-o-flex already operates similar nationwide networks in Germany and Austria.
The Benelux branch operates in compliance with the same criteria, which are subject to astandardised quality management system run by the Kassel-based ThermoMed headquarters. This enablesThermoMed, which is part of the trans-o-flex Logistics Group, to be the first company in thisspecific segment to offer an integrated network in five countries.
“The exchange between the Benelux countries, Germany and Austria especially in the healthcaresector is extremely strong”, said Carsten Glos, Managing Director of ThermoMed. “This is why it isimportant for our customers not only to be offered a nation-wide service in the individualcountries but also to benefit from an efficient network of the country organisations.”
Active cooling requires a specific know-how and high investments in the entire logisticchain. For example, temperature-controlled transhipment centres and vehicles are necessary toensure a continuously active cooling chain so that dispatchers are not dependent on passive coolingsystems including expensive additional packaging. The chargeable weight can be reduced and theadditional packaging material has no longer to be disposed of or returned.
To adapt to the specifics of active cooling, ThermoMed has purchased special thermal cellsfor the storage and transhipment of the sensitive goods and uses special state-of-the-art vehiclesto transport the pharmaceutical products. Central transhipment centres have been set up inBreukelen (Netherlands) and Sint Niclaas (Belgium). The centre in Belgium is also used to servecustomers in Luxembourg. Customers are given the possibility to inform themselves online about thetemperature management of all of their shipments. The usual transit time is 24 hours for shipmentsbetween Germany and the Benelux countries and 48 hours for shipments between Germany and Austria.
