UPS and employees generate over $53 million for United Way campaign

UPS and its employees have pledged more than $53 million to United Way, a US humanitarian networkof more than 1,300 locally governed fund-raising organisations, during this year’s campaign with

more than 249,000 individuals participating in the event.

Supporting United Way for the ninth year in a row, UPS has pledged more than any otherparticipating company this year. Its matching contribution, to be determined early next year by TheUPS Foundation, is expected to push UPS’s total donation for 2008 over $60 million.

Last year, UPS’s total contribution to United Way totalled $60.8 million. Since 1982,including this year’s pledges, UPS and its employees have donated as much as $924 million.

“Even in this tough economy, the spirit of giving is alive and well at UPS,” said ScottDavis, the company’s chairman and CEO. “The support of our employees is unwavering because we allrecognise that the United Way’s efforts to improve lives and communities are more important thanever.”

In addition to financial contributions, UPS employees and their families also volunteeredtheir time and talents to their communities, donating more than 900,000 hours of time throughGlobal Volunteer Month and UPS’s Neighbour-to-Neighbour programme. The latter is a company-widevolunteer initiative that matches employees and their families with volunteer opportunities basedon their interests, skills and availability. UPS also donates loaned executives to several localUnited Way affiliates across the country.

Founded in 1951 and based in Atlanta, The UPS Foundation’s major initiatives includeprogrammes that support community safety, non-profit effectiveness, economic and global literacy,environmental sustainability and diversity.
