Deutsche Post World Net and TNT have announced several new appointments in executive positions thismonth.
Deutsche Post has appointed Prof. Wulf von Schimmelmann (61), as the new head of theSupervisory Board replacing Jürgen Weber (67), the current chairman of the Board. After beingappointed to the Supervisory Board in July 2003, Jürgen Weber was elected Chairman in May 2006.
“Now that the changes required to the Board of Management have been initiated successfullyand Postbank and DHL Express USA have been decided, I consider the end of financial year 2008 theright time for a new chairman of the Supervisory Board,” Weber explained.
Looking back on Schimmelmann’s many years of experience and excellent success at the company,Weber said he regarded the election of his successor, whom he had nominated himself, as a goodsolution.
Moreover, Rainer Wend, aged 54, will succeed Monika Wulf-Mathies, aged 66, as the Head ofCorporate Public Policy and Sustainability at Deutsche Post World Net in Bonn effective April 1,2009. Wulf-Mathies is retiring from the post.
Rainer Wend is currently the Economic Policy Spokesman for the SPD (Social Democratic Party)parliamentary group. In his new position, he will be responsible for the Group’s politicalcoordination, environmental strategy and sustainability as well as Corporate Social Responsibility.In addition to the departments in Bonn, Wend will also manage offices in Berlin, Brussels,Washington and Singapore. He reports directly to CEO Frank Appel. Sören Deng, Head of thePrinciples Policy Department, will act as interim head until Wend assumes his position.
Separately, TNT’s Supervisory Board has appointed Piet Klaver as the new chairman as of 1January 2009 replacing Jan Hommen. Piet Klavier is also the chairman of the Supervisory Board ofJaarbeurs Utrecht, the Utrecht School of Arts and Dekker Hout Groep B.V. Furthermore he is a memberof the Supervisory Board of ING Group N.V., SHV Holdings N.V., African Parks foundation and DuraVermeer Groep N.V.
Jan Hommen will remain a member of the Supervisory Board until his planned resignation at theAnnual General Meeting of Shareholders on 8 April 2009. He has been the head of the SupervisoryBoard since 2005 and a member since 1998.
