British delivery firm CitySprint has been awarded several new contracts, opened a new servicecentre and won an environmental award.
Under the £2 million per year deal with the British Ministry of Defense (MoD), CitySprint waschosen as the preferred supplier for all emergency SameDay Courier deliveries, Land Forces (Army),Maritime (Navy), the Air Force including USAF, as well as a number of other MoD departments. Thecontract, with the opportunity for a two-year extension, was awarded after a competitive tender.
The contract is scoped for CitySprint to make around 20,000 movements per year using itsfleet of over 1500 couriers and network of 30+ ServiceCentres. In addition, the Ministry of Defensewill benefit from CitySprint’s tracking ability with the largest GPS enabled fleet in Europe.

Separately, CitySprint has been awarded a national contract with Britain’s Environment Agencyto deliver internal mail between its 130 regional offices across the UK. This is the secondcontract between the Environment Agency and CitySprint. It has been responsible for deliveringenvironmental samples for the National Laboratory Service (NLS) since October 2006.
In addition, CitySprint was appointed as the official supplier for OGCbuying.solutions whichhelps public sector organisations maximise value for money in their procurement activities.CitySprint is one of six suppliers licensed to trade with the public sector under a new courierframework agreement.
Meanwhile, CitySprint has further expanded its national network by opening a new servicecentre in the Thames Valley region. Paul Gisbourne, Regional Manager, explained: “CitySprint’s newThames Valley service centre will provide benefits not only for the company but also for ourclients. From a company perspective, our presence in the Thames Valley region will generate morework and provide the opportunity for revenue growth.”
Moreover, CitySprint has won the ‘Environmental Improvement’ award at the prestigiousEuropean Supply Chain Excellence Awards in London for its commitment to the environment through thecomprehensive programme that it has implemented both internally and externally.
As part of its internal environmental programme, CitySprint continuously looks for newvehicle options and innovative solutions which are both environmentally friendly and commerciallyviable. CitySprint’s external programme offers clients the opportunity to assess, reduce and evenoffset their own carbon footprint. CitySprint’s environmentally friendly fleet includes pushbikes,CityTrikes (human powered vehicles), electric vehicles, Smart Cars and alternative fuel vehicles.
