HDNL opens new sorting centre

British delivery and collection service, Home Delivery Network Limited (HDNL), has announced theopening of a new 26,013 sqm sorting centre in Northampton, central England, to support the

nationwide operation during Christmas peak 2008.

Operations at the existing Crick sorting centre, which was opened in June 2008, have beenscaled up to support HDNL’s nationwide operation during Christmas 2008. The Crick sorting centre iscurrently being used to distribute parcels to 58 regional parcel depots that make up the HDNLdelivery network.

Brian Gaunt, Chief Executive of HDNL, said: “The new sorting centre at Crick will be a vitalresource this Christmas giving us the capacity to sort an additional 10,000 parcels an hour,increasing our overall capacity by 20%. This additional facility will ensure we fulfil theexpectation of our clients and their customers and deliver that Christmas promise.”

He added: “The centre is good news for the local economy as it has created a number ofsortation and driving jobs. A further 150 temporary positions have been created at the site tosupport the delivery of parcels during the festive period.”

Tim Boswell, MP for Daventry said: “This opening confirms Crick as the ‘hub of Britain’ forparcels and distribution generally.  I wish Home Delivery Network Limited every success withtheir initiative at a time when good news is sorely needed.”
