Hong Kong-based Kerry Logistics has set up a new road trucking service between South-East Asia andsouthern China to target overland freight flows between the two regions.
Kerry Asia Road Transport (KART), a member of Kerry Logistics and the group’s Thailand-basedroad transport specialist, is launching a new weekly service between Kunming in China and Bangkokconnecting its South-East Asian network to China. KART will also add another route from Guangxiprovince in China to Vietnam later in the year.
KART was set up in August 2007 with the strategic aim of becoming the leading ASEAN roadtransport service provider within two years. It has so far built up a cross-border trucking servicelinking ASEAN countries, particularly Laos, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore. In China, Kerry EASLogistics operates a nationwide transport and logistics network, including express parceldeliveries.
“The new integrated network will provide shippers with an option to truck directly toanywhere in South-East Asia or China and the service will also provide direct connections to majorairports and ports,” said Alex Ng, Assistant General Manager of KART South East Asia. “With ourtrucking fleet and a state-of-the-art IT system we will provide an integrated trucking service withfull visibility throughout the supply chain,” he added.
Customers will also be able to leverage off the Group’s portfolio of services includinginternational air, sea freight forwarding, warehousing, distribution, express, customs brokerageand seaport operations within the region.
In 2007, Kerry Logistics, a subsidiary of Kerry Properties, increased turnover 22% to HK$7.68billion (€780 million), with its mainland China business, Kerry EAS Logistics, generating turnoverof HK$3.57 billion (€363 million), a 19% rise. Kerry Logistics has an operational network of over200 offices in 25 countries, some 6,200 employees and more than 3,500 vehicles.
