UPS opens new centre near Naples, Italy

UPS has extended its network in Italy with the opening of a new sorting centre close to thesouthern metropolis of Naples.



The US integrator and its agent, Raffele Inizio Autotrasporti, responsible for thesurrounding Campania region, opened the centre at Arzano, north of Naples, earlier this month. Thenew facility will increase capacity for sorting packages from 1,000 per hour to 4,000, with theoption of expanding capacity further to 8,000 packages an hour in the future.

The new operations centre of Raffele Inizio Autotrasporti, covering an area of 15,000 sqm,features advanced automated sorting technology, a 150-metre conveyor belt and eight bays forsimultaneous loading and unloading of 70 vans, UPS Italy said in a statement.

“Campania is an area of strategic importance for the activities of UPS in southern Italy,because it represents an important logistical hub and is home to major companies active in theclothing, textiles, maritime, packaging and paper industries,” said Frank Sportolari, countrymanager for UPS in Italy. “Products ‘Made in Italy’ remain highly popular abroad and the expansionof our operational structure is a further response to the need to continue delivering regionalproducts to Europe and worldwide.”

The collaboration between UPS and Raffaele Inizio Autotrasporti began more than two decadesago when UPS made its entry into the Italian market and launched international shipping betweenItaly and the United States. Although UPS has expanded its international presence over the years,it has also benefited from partnerships with locally-based companies such as Raffaele InizioAutotrasporti which provide a high level of service to businesses of all types and sizes.
