UPS is expanding its healthcare services for customers with the opening of a new state-of-the-artfacility in Puerto Rico.
The investment in the new facility will allow UPS to better serve companies in the healthcareindustry in the European Union, Latin America and the Caribbean in addition to the United States.
Set to open in the first quarter of 2009, the 45,720 sqm facility will be capable of storingmedical devices in addition to sensitive and perishable pharmaceutical and biotech products whileaugmenting a supply chain network that provides timely delivery throughout the world, UPS said in astatement.
The new facility, located in San Juan, will also offer healthcare customers the flexibilitythey need to facilitate new product introductions, meet time-critical commitments, reduce inventorymanagement costs and streamline ordering and billing processes, all while providing maximum supplychain visibility. UPS will utilize the same validated technology platform employed in its US andCanadian healthcare distribution centres, allowing for smooth implementations.

The new facility in Puerto Rico is opening at the same time as the 65,532 sqm healthcaredistribution facility in Roermond, The Netherlands. Together, these two facilities will expandUPS’s existing global healthcare network to 25 facilities.
