UPS will hike express prices by a net average of 4.9% for 2009, following the announcement of aprice rise of 4%-5% by DHL Express in Europe.
UPS said it has issued new list rates for 2009, including an average increase of 5.9% for UPSGround packages and an average net increase of 4.9% on all air express and US origin Internationalshipments. UPS Freight announced a general rate increase of 5.9% for 2009.
The rate increase for air express and international shipments is based on a 6.9% increase inthe base rate, less a 2% reduction in the air and international fuel surcharge index. The new rateswill take effect on Jan. 5, 2009.
Updated rate and service information will be posted on the UPS website beginning October 24,2008, and customers will be able to download the 2009 Rate and Service Guide from December 18onwards.
