FedEx Express has added a new Airbus 310 freighter to its Spanish fleet operating between Barcelonaand Paris four days per week to improve transit times for heavy shipments and to boost growth in
Catalonia, Spain.The new Airbus 310 replaces two feeder flights, which previously operated to Paris Charles deGaulle airport, increasing capacity by up to 25 tons. The flights, operational since 15 September,reduce the transit time of heavy shipments sent as International Priority Freight by up to a dayfrom more than 119 postal codes in Spain.
FedEx Express said that its investment in Barcelona is the result of business growth in theregion of Catalonia that is a major driving force in Spain and an important gateway to Europe andthe rest of the world, thanks to its key geographical location.
“Since we added Barcelona as a flight point in 1998, we have seen a strong and increasingdemand from both existing customers and new users of international air express services,” said IanSilverton, FedEx Operations Senior Manager for Spain.
“It is important for us to continue providing the highest quality level of service to all ourcustomers as well as increasing our flight capacity to support industry in Barcelona and theCatalonian region more generally,” he added.
Catalonia is home to the largest number of active exporting companies in the whole of Spain,with the number of export companies in the region increasing fivefold in the course of the last 15years, according to the Evolution of External Commerce, released by the Innovation CounsellorJoseph Huguet, FedEx said.
