DPWN honours its best suppliers at Global Supplier Day

Deutsche Post World Net has awarded nine awards to its very best suppliers to mark its first GlobalSupplier Day as part of its intensified supplier management programme.



The programme is aimed in particular at meeting ever rising demands in terms of quality andflexibility in the supply chain as well as optimising costs, DPWN said. Moreover, the suppliermanagement system allows the Group to ensure over the longer term that ethical standards are metand that companies are meeting their social responsibilities.

In the category of most improved supplier, the winner was the US temporary labour companyStaffmark standing out thanks to its sharp customer focus and a continuous improvement in itsservice level for the last four years.

Another award for the most innovative supplier went to Motorola. The company mainly suppliesDeutsche Post with portable scanners as well as related software and networking solutions. Oneexample of collaboration with Motorola was the development of a tailored solution allowing data tobe transmitted direct from scanners to a printer without the need for a PC or laptop. Thisinnovative solution brought savings for the MAIL Corporate Division of some €6 million a year.

Other suppliers recognized for their innovative approach in this category were GE CapitalSolutions in the area of commercial vehicles and Morgan Stanley in the field of aviation.

The award for the very best service went to VanDerLande Industries, a Dutch supplier ofmaterial handling systems. VanDerLande proved itself to DHL Express Aviation when installinghandling facilities at the new Leipzig hub in May of this year as the work was finished a number ofweeks ahead of schedule and the system was commissioned without any major hitches.

Other awards for best suppliers went to Cisco Systems for telecoms services and theWiesbaden-based advertising agency Carat.

“The right products need to be delivered in the specified quantities, at the right time andto the right place,” said Hugo Eckseler, DPWN head of Corporate Procurement. “So it is importantthat our suppliers know precisely what we expect from them and that we know what they can deliver.We need to work together on optimising performance levels, for only then do we achieve genuinewin-win situations.”
