British courier CitySprint makes regional acquisition

British delivery firm CitySprint has acquired Birmingham-based courier company PBS Deliveries foran undisclosed sum to expand its national network whilst further strengthening its established

Midlands operations.

CitySprint, which describes itself as the UK’s largest privately owned sameday couriernetwork with 31 locations and a fleet of over 1,500 couriers, said that despite the currenteconomic turmoil it is continuing its successful growth strategy of focussing on organic expansionand strategic add-on acquisitions to maintain its strong foothold and grow its market share.

Ben Haynes, Managing Director Regions, said: “Birmingham is one of the UK’s top three citiesin terms of courier activity and this acquisition is a great example of our strategy to achieveincreased market share in key commercial locations. PBS is a very strong local city-based businessand by joining forces we have created Birmingham’s largest dedicated SameDay courier company whichwill benefit the service all of our customers receive locally and nationally.”

The company has taken over PBS’s city centre location and will retain its staff as well asits 25 self-employed couriers. PBS owner and founder Kris Mazumder will remain at CitySprint asLogistics Manager, managing the Birmingham business.

“Our customers now want more from their courier provider – good old fashioned local customerservice is essential, however to stay ahead we now need to offer enhanced service options such asonline booking, online live tracking, environmental options and the national coverage which allowsus to offer a truly on demand national service,” Mazumder said. “With a combined Birmingham fleetof over 70 dedicated vehicles supported by the largest national fleet in the UK, plus all theadditional services I can now offer my customers, I am really excited about what we will achieve.”

PBS customers will now benefit from access to considerably enhanced OnLine services.CitySprint operates the largest GPS enabled fleet in Europe which means that its customers benefitfrom real-time information at the touch of a button. CitySprint has taken the bold step of offeringcomplete transparency to its customers about the courier services they use. From the point ofbooking CitySprint’s customers can view, through CitySprint’s CourierLocator facility on theirwebsite, a real time map location of the courier doing their SameDay Courier delivery and a step bystep job progress audit and electronic proof of delivery through QuikTrak.
